The word Ayurveda being a Sanskrit word can be translated simply as ‘Science of Life’.

Besides teaching us things about how to live a healthy disease free life, Ayurveda is also the world’s oldest known Medical Science. Originated in India over 5,000 year ago, Ayurveda is also a sister science to Yoga. Most of Ayurveda’s principles were used to develop Chinese herbal medicine, Unani medicine, Siddha medicine, Tibetan medicine, Acupuncture, Acupressure, Naturopathy, various massages techniques, Physiotherapy.

The word Ayurveda originates from the sacred texts called Vedas meaning the sacred books of knowledge, science and wisdom. The four Vedas being Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda and Atharvaveda, date back their origins even before Ayurvedic classical texts used by Ayurvedic physicians all around the globe.

As compared to the modern Allopathic science which dates back not more than 300 years, Ayurveda is considered as the mother of all health/ healing sciences and if you delve into the history you will come to know how the birth of Allopathic and other health sciences have immerged from Ayurveda and its basic principles.

Ayurveda starts with telling you what is normal in life, and then explaining you what is abnormal. Here is when Ayurveda actually starts telling you details about various diseases, their treatment and curative aspects. Thus Ayurveda can be applied anywhere and anytime to all aspects of life, health, relationships, diet, disease and its cure.

The old tradition of Ayurveda demonstrates its power in healing and recovery even over chronic diseases such as Arthritis, Diabetes, Obesity, Skin ailments, Digestive disorders, Psychosomatic ailments, Gynaecological disorders and many others.

Ayurveda mainly consist of eight branches (The age old Sanskrit names are given besides the English names):

Ayurveda is also a balance between science and philosophy that informs you about the techniques to create equilibrium in your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual components, which are necessary for complete holistic health. Thus, besides the above eight branches Ayurveda also dwells in areas of Yoga, Nutrition, Astrology and Spirituality.
